Introduction to Coppicing & Pollarding
Learn the woodland skills of coppicing & pollarding to produce sustainable timber. Find out about the tools used and brush up on your tree ID skills!
The course will cover:
A brief introduction to traditional woodland management; tree ID walk and game; practical tasks of coppicing and pollarding; site walk to demonstrate the coppice rotation cycle.
By the end of the course you will have learnt how to identify some common native British trees, will know about the theory of coppicing and pollarding and will be able to practice safe coppicing and pollarding techniques. No previous experience is required; this course is suitable for beginners.
The course will cover: the benefits of hedgerow management in the UK; the theory of hedgelaying ; practical tasks to learn hedgelaying using traditional techniques.
For both courses you need to bring a packed lunch and wear suitable outdoor clothes (old clothes, waterproofs, boots or wellies).
